Congratulations to Peter Johnson OAM (Wyvern 1959) who was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours with an Order of Australia for service to the community of the Shepparton region.

Peter came to Queen’s on the recommendation of Professor Eric Osborn, a friend of his parents’ and with the aid of a Commonwealth scholarship.

He has fond memories of his time at Queen’s including after dinner walks on College Crescent, waterbagging, and the ever-present fear of not remembering the College grace.

While practising law in Shepparton for 50 years, Peter has given much to his local community including the establishment and continuing development of Goulburn Valley Grammar School, Membership of Apex and Rotary, the establishment of The Shepparton Community Fund and Greater Shepparton Connected Communities Inc.. As well as involvement in pressure groups such as Foodbowl Unlimited relating to the modernisation of the Goulburn Valley irrigation modernisation scheme, and The GV Highway Action Group relating to the development of a highway bypass of Shepparton.

Peter considers this honour is proof that you can make a difference in your community.

He places importance in acting with respect to and for others, and being optimistic.
