Starting the year off strong, the men’s cricket team won the grand final against Hilda’s to retain the trophy with a great crowd and many celebrations to follow. The women’s cricket team also made it to the grand final, yet Ormond won the battle.

After the successful cricket season, tennis followed with much passion and success yet no finals were played and Queen’s placed third.

Queen’s had great fun at the athletics carnival placing 7th overall.

This was followed by cross country, a 5km race through Princes Park. The Queen’s team was filled with competitive athletes with the fastest in the men’s and women’s races both coincidentally placing 17th respectively.

The swimming carnival was very fun with Queen’s Charlie Mortimer-Short securing the fastest record ever in the men’s 100m freestyle.

In soccer, the men’s team, with many close wins, made it to the grand final and in a gripping game, lost against Ormond.

On the same night, the women’s hockey team played the grand final, also against Ormond. At half time, it would seem that Queen’s would secure victory however, in a major turn of events Ormond gained victory. A disappointing night for Queen’s supporters.

Queen’s had a lot of fun in table tennis, coming in at fourth place.

This then followed with women’s soccer successfully placing third, winning the minor final.

The men’s hockey also won the minor final and finished third.

In the rowing, both the men’s 1st VIII and the women’s 1st VIII came second. The Magoo’s rowing crew had fun but failed to make the top four.

Overall, it was a great semester for sport and we look forward to securing more trophies in semester 2.
