Sunday 17 December marks the 50th anniversary of the disappearance of Harold Holt, the 17th Prime Minister of Australia, whilst swimming in rough conditions at Cheviot Beach, Victoria.
Holt had a connection with Queen’s College, where he was a resident on scholarship while studying law at the University of Melbourne. He was an active and popular student representing the University in cricket and football (and also playing on the College football team) as well as being active in various student organisations including serving as president of the Queen’s College Sports & Social Club (QCS&SC) in 1931.
