For the fourth time in five years, the Queen’s men’s football team once again found themselves facing Trinity in the Grand Final. In a heartbreaking finish, the boys fell short by just three points after leading for the majority of the game. Spectators from around the Crescent were treated to a nail-biting end to the season, with standout performances from Oscar Davies (2nd year Commerce) and Ted Bain (1st year Property and Valuation). While not the result they had hoped for, it was an unfortunate end to an otherwise outstanding season. 

The women’s football team once again progressed to the minor final against Hilda’s where they had an exciting victory to finish off the season. The team showed lots of commitment throughout the long season across both semesters and great sportsmanship throughout. 

This year, the women’s firsts netball team progressed to the major final of the competition, ultimately ending up runners ups in a close game against UC. The team displayed extreme skill and sportsmanship throughout and opened up the semester 2 sporting calendar well. 

The women’s basketball team showed great energy and determination throughout the season and after a number of intense matches, progressed to the minor final. While unfortunately coming up short against St Mary’s, the team showed great Queen’s culture on and off the court. 

The men’s basketball team capped off a perfect season with a commanding 15-point victory over Ormond in the Grand Final, played in front of an electric crowd. Captain Sam Mclean (2nd year Design) led by example throughout the season, while fresher Sam Larratt (1st year Business) finished as the team’s leading scorer. With a squad made up predominantly of first-year players, the future of Queen’s basketball looks incredibly promising. 

In what might be one of the most successful seasons of volleyball Queen’s has seen in a few years, the women’s volleyball team progressed all the way to the major final. In an extremely tense and close game that went to five sets against Ormond, Queen’s ultimately lost by only a handful of points. While disappointing, the volleyball team showed extreme commitment and the future years of volleyball look promising. 

The Queen’s men’s volleyball team showed plenty of fight and determination throughout the season, finishing in third place after securing victory in the minor final. With a team packed with talented freshers, the side has laid strong foundations for what promises to be an exciting few seasons ahead.
