DESCRIPTION:The Master and Head of College\, Dr Michael Stepniak\, warmly invites you and a guest to Queen’s College’s annual Sugden Institute Indigenous Oration\, “Missing from the Count: Why Indigenous Data Sovereignty Matters to Everyone”. \nMeet the speaker\nAlexandra Hohoi is Senior Policy Advisor Data at First Languages Australia. Proudly from the Komet Tribe of Mer and raised in Far North Queensland\, Alex leads national Indigenous data policy work and has recently focused on Priority Reform 4 under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. Her career has taken her across the country working with communities in pursuit of self determination\, with Indigenous governance and Indigenous data sovereignty at its heart. \nThe conversation \nWe live in a world where data are treated as fact\, yet Indigenous people are often left out of the count. Does your data literacy include a lens on Indigenous people\, and why does that matter? What is Indigenous Data Sovereignty\, and why should it matter to researchers\, professionals\, governments and everyday people?
