Queen’s College was founded in 1887 as a residential college of the University of Melbourne under the auspices of the Uniting Church of Australia. It commenced as a male only college becoming co-educational in 1973 with the introduction of the first women undergraduates.
For over 125 years Queen’s College has fostered a unique community where students come together to live and pursue their intellectual and personal growth in a caring and supportive environment.
Queen’s College currently has 241 undergraduate students, 56 graduate students and 29 members of the Senior Common Room.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will have responsibility for the planning, operations and administration of all matters related to Queen’s financial management.

You will oversee the provision of payroll services and manage a staff member to deliver payroll and finance support. You will work closely with all departments to provide systems and support for managers with budgeting and monitoring financial performance of their programs and provide high quality reports and support for Council in their governance role.

Specific requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and CPA or CA qualifications
  • A thorough knowledge of accounting and auditing theory, practices and procedures, financial analysis and management practices, complex budget development and management, corporate governance requirements, and ideally a sound understanding of the financial requirements for the not-for-profit/education sectors
  • Effective problem solving skills and demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing process/system improvements and the ability to manage varied, high priority tasks within limited time frames
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal, consultancy and presentation skills with the ability to prepare quality reports, briefs and correspondence and to interpret, explain, report on and provide advice on a variety of accounting and financial management issues.

In addition to significant relevant experience at a senior level in a similar role, you will possess a high degree of professionalism, initiative, decisiveness and outstanding attention to detail. You are an enthusiastic and energetic person with a strong service orientation who is committed to working collaboratively and respectfully with staff, students and key stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes.

Working as a trusted partner and advisor to the College Master, you will:

  • Provide high level executive support ensuring all administrative requirements related to the Master’s activities are managed and coordinated in a highly professional, organised and timely manner. This includes the management of phone calls, emails, correspondence and other communication, diary management, coordinating travel, writing minutes and reports and managing meeting documentation.
  • Provide highly skilled administrative support for Council and governance processes
  • Coordinate events and manage public relations for the Master including promotion of events, website content and the Master’s social media channels
  • Establish and maintain highly productive working relationships with the Master, the Senior Management Team and other stakeholders and provide highly professional liaison with all facets of the Queen’s community
  • Provide effective line management for a Receptionist as a direct report.

In addition to significant relevant senior executive assistant experience ideally within an academic/educational environment, you have outstanding attention to detail, sound judgement to make appropriate decisions on behalf of the Master and the College, highly developed project management abilities and polished written and verbal communication skills. You are an enthusiastic, energetic and highly capable person with a strong service orientation who is committed to working collaboratively and respectfully with staff, students and key stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes.
